A Generous Gift from The Massengill-DeFriece Foundation

Just before Christmas, Friends received an early Christmas present – a $10,000 contribution from The Massengill-DeFriece Foundation to help us with our ambitious Nature Center Library project.

City crews are finishing their renovation of the downstairs area of the original Nature Center building. Among other things, this space will soon house the new library, just around the corner from the heavily used DeFriece-Wilson Classroom. The library will contain plenty of convenient shelving, comfortable furniture, computer workstation, and desk space. Most importantly, with the additional funding, we will purchase an extensive array of new books including reference texts, popular nature guides and other resources, and books for children and youth. We will also be subscribing to JSTOR, giving staff and visiting researchers ready access to one of the largest online science journal databases available. With these additions we will have one of the finest natural history libraries in the region.

All this would not have been possible without the generous support of The Massengill-DeFriece Foundation which, in 2016, provided funding for the DeFriece-Wilson Classroom, allowing us to move forward with our entire Nature Center expansion project.

Our heartfelt thanks go to The Massengill-DeFriece Foundation for their ongoing, generous support of The Nature Center at Steele Creek Park!
