Springtime at Steele Creek Park

Spring officially starts tomorrow, March 20th, which means that it’s time for things to really start rocking at Steele Creek Park.  The train starts running this weekend (weekends only until Memorial Day), the boats will be available to rent starting in early May, and summer hours for the Nature Center, train and boats begin Memorial Day weekend.

In the meantime, come out to the park to take advantage of the many springtime Nature Center activities.  Every Saturday morning one of the naturalists leads a nature walk beginning at 9:00 am at the Nature Center. On Friday evening, April 5th, Larry McDaniel will be conducting one of his popular Moth Nights; come learn about local moths and have Larry demonstrate how easy it is to attract moths for viewing almost any time of year!

On Saturday, April 20th plan to come to the Park to help us with our annual Earth Day Lake Cleanup Event.  Meet at the Nature Center at 9:00 am.  Bags, gloves, and refreshments will be provided.

And mark your calendars now for our Friends of Steele Creek Annual Meeting, set for Sunday afternoon, May 19th at the Lodge.  The program will focus on the Park’s history, as we gear up for our big Steele Creek Park 50th Anniversary Celebration next year.  Check back soon for more details!

Hope to see many of you at the Park as spring kicks into high gear!
