Projects and Activities
Thanks to the hard work and generous donations of many of our members and other supporters, we have accomplished much since we were established in 1998. Some of our many projects include:
- Fundraising and planning for all of the new exhibits in the expanded Nature Center
- Establishment and maintenance of gardens around the Nature Center and elsewhere in the Park
- Establishment of a registered arboretum dedicated to trees native to our region
- Acquisition and donation to the City of a 3.9 acre tract of land contiguous to the Park, protecting a section of Trinkle Creek, home to a population of rare Tennessee dace
- Support for the establishment of the Ruth Clark Herbrium at The Nature Center at Steele Creek Park
- Creation of a family fitness trail at the Park
- Construction of trail bridges, installation of trail signs, and help with trail maintenance
- Construction and maintenance of information kiosks
- Creation and printing of original Park trail maps
- Financial and logistical support for Wildlife Weekend, summer nature camps, and other educational activities at the Park
- Establishment and sponsorship of the annual Wildlife Weekend Photography Contest and Show
- Financial support for numerous student research projects conducted at the Park
With your support we can continue to accomplish great things at Steele Creek Park.
